Prof. Philip Koopman is a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University, where he leads a research group that ensures the safety of autonomous ground vehicles via automated stress testing. He has been involved with autonomous vehicle safety since 1996, and has additional expertise in the areas of embedded software quality, embedded system design, embedded networking, and non-autonomous vehicle software safety. He is the co-founder of Edge Case Research, which provides tools and services for autonomous vehicle testing and safety validation. His pre-university career includes experience as a US Navy officer, embedded CPU designer, and embedded system architect for various industry application areas. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Senior Member of ACM, and a member of SAE.
